"Away Games" -- Las Vegas, November 2013 (Spin Your Way Slot Tournament)

Back in July Bob won an "all expenses paid" entry to Boyd's invitational "Spin Your Way to $100,000 Slot Tournament" that was held at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas.  The entry included round trip airfare for him and a guest (me of course), limo service to and from the airport, a beautiful suite at the California Hotel and Casino (our "home away from home" property) and all the food and drink you could handle.  The Boyd Corporation went all out to treat the entrants like royalty.  Here are some photos we took during the trip.

Jeesh, Sharon, can you at least try to enjoy your limo ride from the airport? We were on our way to The California so Bob could participate in an "invitation only" 2-day tourney at The Orleans Casino. This is the life - we appreciated our careful driver. Time to relax after a long plane trip.
A few shots of our room at The Cal. For some reason, we were upgraded to one of the older suites - not that we spent much time there, ha ha! Really quite nice - lots of windows, too.

My daughter, Jen, and I in the shuttle bus on the way to The Orleans, where the slots tourney was held, and getting geared up to be Bob's cheerleaders. Bob after finishing his first round of the tourney.
His fingers were sore!
Bob and Jen enjoying breakfast. Jen and me.
Jen and I sitting together trying our darndest to win some money (at a video poker bar, of course). Our friends, Colin and Eileen (who participated in the tournament), with Bob and Jen at the awards banquet.
Colin and Eileen - happy campers. Such a nice couple. That's Bill Boyd on the left, Executive Chairman and son of the founder of all the Boyd properties, Sam Boyd. What an honor to meet him.
To say the banquet was elegant and outstanding is an understatement.
Here are a few of shots from that glorious night.

In the above montage, first is the final results posting from the two-day tournament.  Bob finished in 8th place out of about 220 participants.  A little more luck would have been very good -- a little less luck would have been off the sheet.  Then here's a shot of one of the tournament machines after one of Bob's rounds, which happened to be one of the highest 15 minute rounds of the entire tournament.  Finalist and Guest badges had to be worn in the tournament area.  Finally, one of the Boyd Show Girls with Bob and me.

Almost a good one...  Triple Double Bonus Aces but without the kicker and with a damn black 8, Bob's nemesis card. Not long after the TDB Aces Bob switched to Triple Bonus Plus and Dollars, unusual for him, but it paid off with a lucky draw good for 1200 clams.
Super Double Bonus -- one of Bob's favorite pay schedules where a set of face cards returns $150 for a $1.25 bet. Bob's luck continued with this Royal Flush, the only one either of us had during the trip.  Not 10 minutes before, he needed only the Jack of Diamonds (in the first position) but couldn't draw it...  Justice?
DDB 50 cent 3s without a kicker, still 200 clams. DDB 50 cent 3s, again without a kicker.
SDB Queens, just not enough of them... Bob's first, last and only quad for our last morning in Vegas -- a set of 50 cent Ultra Bonus Aces (holding 1 ace) for a cool 1000 clams.
